The Mercy Islam Teaches
I never get tired of re-blogging this. Non-Muslim friends, THIS is what Islam teaches. Not hatred. According to the Qur’an, this father who could have rightfully demanded the life of his son’s killer will be given special mercy and grace from God, and why? Because he himself showed mercy when it was in his power to do so. Jesus - a prophet of God - spoke as much in one of the Beatitudes, which, since it agrees so perfectly with the Qur’an, is probably something he actually said.
Not only is all of the above true, but it’s also a reality that this man, whoever he is, has been given a magnificent gift. His life with the Qur’an will be like the noonday sun to a man cured of blindness compared to what it was without it.
Anyway, there’s a lesson in this for people who think.
Before deciding to go to the presentation, I was told that Zakir Naik has modern views in regards to Islam, being a medical doctor in his practise before he took up preaching and studying comparative religion. I wasn’t that optimistic with his presentation, but it really opened up a lot of Quranic information that women who doesn’t study Islam comprehensively are deprived of.
As women, information that heightens our position are taken away and taken out of context in order to inject power to the patriach. This is a sad truth.
I learnt a lot of what the Quran stated the women’s role actually is, that it isn’t exclusively for the kitchen and she has the right to take up a job if she wishes, that her role as a mother heightens her stature in the afterlife. Moreover, Islam gives women their rights earlier than Western civilisation did. Where the suffragettes started in the Nineteenth Century, women in Islam was already given the right to vote and work according to the Quran. Women are basically equal to men, but both genders play different roles.
Naik’s presentation focused on six roles of women: spiritual, education, economic, social/family, legal and political; and because these are quite dry, I’ll give you this link so you can read up on it. It’s the same things, but I would like to cut to the chase of how much I love Bruneian women who take no shit from people who are going to downgrade our position.
